Healthy Life Education is a set of courses, recognized internationally, on health education and the prevention of drug abuse, the objective of which is to let primary school children to have knowledge about the advantages of healthy life and the dangers of drugs and other substance abuse. The programme was launched in September 2000 and is promoted by Department of Prevention and Treatment of Drug Dependence of Social Welfare Bureau.
The curriculum is equipped with Cantonese, English and Special Needs programme for primary school students.
The curriculum is designed to enable children to get acquaintance with the functioning of the body and the drug effect on body gradually. It helps them to develop problem-solving and refusal skills. They can then become confident to refuse drug, but do not feel losing face or friendship.
Classroom is equipped with advanced teaching materials, including audiovisual equipment, illuminated models of body systems, a “talking brain” and our mascot, Harold the giraffe.
Class Activities include activities conducted by educators, role-play, group discussions, etc. Students can learn happily through these games. The programme of every class lays the learning foundation for the next year.
Follow up Activities include the provision of student’s worksheets and teacher’s manual. With these materials, teachers can help their students to reinforce the knowledge learned from Healthy Life Education.

| Outpatient Unit: |
| |
Services of Outpatient
Unit for treatment for drug dependence includes
medical care, personal counselling, psychotherapy,
social assistance, referral, etc. It also
provides information and supporting service for
families and friends of the drug dependents. |
| Primary Treatment Unit: |
| |
It is a short-term in-patient
treatment that consists of detoxification of drug
dependents who have withdrawal syndrome and other
health problems due to drug dependence. After
being assessed by Outpatient Unit, the help seekers
will be referred to 24-hour in-patient treatment,
where they will receive 2-week treatment followed
by a long-term rehabilitation and social reintegration
program. |

A facility for learning and
organizing healthy activities, specially designed
for drug dependents undergoing treatment and ex-drug
dependents, and comprising corners for reading,
exercises and various activities. And it is
also a place for organizing activities like seminars,
exhibitions and training programs with sharing
of experiences, in order to reinforce social reintegration
and prevent the clients from relapse. |
